Saddling up to support churches

Last weekend, hundreds of people saddled up to join Leicestershire’s annual Ride + Stride – a cycling, horse riding and walking event to support local churches.

The event is now in its 25th year and every year more than 400 churches, chapels and religious sites across Leicestershire open their doors for participants raising money for the restoration of these places of worship.

Preserving historic buildings is essential to keeping the character of the countryside, and Leicestershire Historic Churches Trust work hard to maintain places of worship throughout the county. They need all the help they can get so we were delighted to have the opportunity to show our support for Ride + Stride this year by sponsoring them as part of our 25th Anniversary celebrations.

It was a wonderful day with a great turn-out and it was so lovely to see so many happy faces.
Rupert Harrison represented Andrew Granger & Co, joining the High Sheriff of Leicestershire, Richard Clowes, and David Knowles of Leicestershire Historic Churches Trust at St Luke’s Church in Gaddesby.

St Luke’s Church dates back to the 12th Century and is listed in Simon Jenkins’ book, England’s Thousand Best Churches.

In its 25 years, Leicestershire Ride + Stride has raised nearly £900,000 for churches across the county.
