Peter Buckingham of Andrew Granger & Co looks at estate agency, as seen on TV

Television cameras have been peeking into the lives of estate agents in the BBC 2 fly-on-the-wall series Under Offer.

Reality TV can be very unkind so you might expect this programme to paint an unfavourable picture of estate agents.

Instead, what we see is agents doing their best for clients. Regardless of the price of homes being sold, the agents get the job done, often dealing with demanding situations in the process.

We see agents genuinely trying their best for their clients against what sometimes seem to be impossible odds. They have to overcome cautious mortgage lenders, ultra-careful surveyors, stretched solicitors, chains of precarious deals, demanding sellers and tentative buyers. It seems a miracle that any deals are done at all.

In the programme, agents can sometimes appear pushy but sometimes that’s what’s needed to make a deal happen in the best interests of everyone involved.

The people in the programme are like thousands of estate agents across the country. They care. Thanks to them most people do get to move to the new homes they want, when they want to!
